Effective date: 10 September 2026
The short version
Most of what happens on this site involves no personal data at all. You open a calculator, type numbers into it, and read the answer. Those numbers are worked out by code running inside your own browser. They are never transmitted to us, never written to a database, and never seen by anyone else. Close the tab and they are gone.
We collect personal information in exactly three situations, all of which you start: you send us a message, you subscribe to updates, or you consent to cookies that measure and support the site. Everything below is the detail behind those three.
What we collect
- What you send us: If you use the contact form we store your name, your email address, an optional subject and your message, so that a person can read and reply to it. If you subscribe, we store your email address and the date you subscribed.
- Technical information: Our server records the pages requested, the browser and device type, and the approximate region derived from the network address. This is how we know which calculators are used and which pages are broken.
- A hashed network address: When you submit the contact form we store a one-way hash of your IP address rather than the address itself. It lets us spot a flood of automated submissions from one source. It cannot be reversed into an address.
- Your cookie choice: When you answer the cookie banner we record the answer, the date, your browser type, a one-way hash of your network address and the country that address belongs to. The address itself is not stored. The country lookup runs on our own server using IP address data from the Number Resource Organization (nro.net), licensed under CC BY 4.0.
- Measurement and advertising cookies: Only after you consent. Until then, no analytics or advertising cookie is set. See the Cookie Policy for what each category does.
What we never collect
Being explicit about this matters more than the list above, because it is the part a calculator site could quietly get wrong.
- Your calculator inputs. Salary, loan amount, weight, date of birth — all of it is processed in your browser and none of it reaches us.
- Any account, password or login. There are no accounts on this site.
- Payment details. Nothing here is paid for, so there is nothing to take.
- Anything from a child we know to be under 13. Our tools are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Why we hold it
Each piece of data above exists for one stated purpose and is not repurposed later:
- Your message and email address — to answer you, and to tell you when a fix you reported has shipped.
- Your subscription — to send you the updates you asked for, and nothing else.
- Technical logs — to keep the site working, find errors and decide what to build next.
- Consent records — to prove, if asked, that a cookie was set only after permission was given.
Advertising
This site is free and is paid for by advertising. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve and measure ads here, including ads based on your previous visits to this and other sites.
Where the law requires consent, none of that happens until you give it. Choosing to decline does not remove the ads; it means they are chosen without a profile of you. You can change your answer at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer, and you can control personalised advertising across all sites in Google's own Ads Settings.
Who else sees it
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. It leaves our systems in only three circumstances:
- Service providers: The companies that host the site, deliver our email and serve our advertising process data on our behalf, under contract, and only for that purpose.
- Legal obligation: When a law, regulation or valid legal process requires disclosure.
- Protecting people: Where disclosure is necessary to protect the rights or safety of our users or of Calci.in.
How long we keep it
- Contact messages: two years, so that we can follow up on a reported problem, then deleted.
- Subscriptions: until you unsubscribe. The link is in every email we send.
- Consent records: six months, after which we ask you again.
- Server logs: ninety days.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to us and we will act on it — there is no form to fill in and no fee.
You can unsubscribe from any email with one click, and you can clear or block cookies in your browser at any time without losing access to a single calculator.
Security, honestly stated
The site is served over HTTPS, access to our systems is restricted, and we hold as little as we can — which is the most effective protection there is, because data never collected cannot leak. We cannot promise that any system is impossible to breach, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
Links to other sites
Our guides cite outside sources, including regulators and official documents. Once you follow such a link you are on someone else's site, under their policy, not ours.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will change the effective date at the top of the page and, where the change affects data we already hold, tell subscribers directly.
